Polytechnic Institute of Tomar (Instituto Politécnico de Tomar) was established in 1973, but opened its doors to students a few years later. The institute is a higher European technical educational institution that trains specialists in scientific fields of technical, artistic and humanities. The Institute has 21 Bachelor and Master degree programmes, as well as 17 special technical courses.
